Private Lesson Program
The Austin Soundwaves Private Lesson Program (PLP) offers free-to-the-student private music lessons to middle and high school students. During weekly private lessons, students collaborate with their Austin Soundwaves teacher to create personal goals for their music studies. Students have regular opportunities to perform and share their work publicly and also work with their teacher to develop a portfolio of the work.
PLP students have achieved 100% high school graduation rates and are currently majoring in fields such as music, architecture, geology, and business throughout Texas and the United States.
The Private Lesson Program is generously supported by several partners, including the Austin ISD Fine Arts Department, Lynne Dobson and Greg Wooldridge, the National Endowment for the Arts and Impact Austin.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.

IMPACT REPORTS
As part of our commitment to ongoing evaluation and data collection, PLP students are evaluated on their understanding of fundamental music vocabulary and playing ability. Findings from our most recent evaluation report (2021-22) can be found in the full report.
Special thank you to the support and leadership of the Austin Ed Fund and Austin ISD’s Visual & Performing Arts Department for making the pilot year of the private lesson program a success.
