Austin Soundwaves is back (in person) and better than ever

Back to in-person concerts

We are so excited to be back in person, not only in our classrooms but also on the stage. Last week, we were able to perform our first in-person concert at partner school East Austin College Prep since March 2020. Performances included our 5th-grade violins, beginner orchestra, band, and advanced orchestra.

Here is what Dana Wygmans, our Orchestra Education Manager, had to say about the night:

It was a bit surreal to put on an actual student concert. All in all, it was a relatively normal concert - but given the context of the past year I don't believe I've ever appreciated it as much as did that evening. It made my heart happy to put together music with students again and perform for their families. It's a good reminder to not take for granted the excitement and accomplishment that goes along with concerts.

Celebrating the close of Hispanic Heritage Month

On October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month came to a close. In a final celebration, one of our partner schools, IDEA Montopolis, held a Hispanic Heritage assembly where the bands performed for the school's 1400 students. Pictured above is the high school band led by Dr. Felipe Brito.
