Summer Music Camp 2024 was an incredible experience for all of us, filled with the sounds of young musicians making joyful noise together. More than 100 students, ranging from ages 7 to 18, joined us this year in late June, guided by our dedicated team of 20 staff and student interns, and volunteers.

We honor Draylen with this program and present a capstone curated and led by the fellows every year. The focus of each capstone is unique - the fellows curate and lead the various aspect of the performance, in particular choosing the theme of the show. The theme addresses a social issue important to the fellows and their communities.

Last week our students at East Austin College Prep performed at their fall concert, entitled Mermaids, Dragons, Stars, and More. The performances featured our beginning, intermediate, and advanced orchestras.

The All-Region Festival and Clinic started as part of the Austin Music Education Coalition in 2016 as a way for teachers at smaller schools to share with and learn from each other. We now provide both a band and orchestra track and bring in guest artist teachers and conductors to work with more than 150 students every year.

We had a very busy last several days at Austin Soundwaves, including visits and concerts with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, partner schools, and Mariachi Para Todos. We love the chance to get out into the community and share the beautiful music-making that happens in our arts-rich city!

Thank you for celebrating our 12th anniversary this past week. Our small but mighty organization was founded October 17, 2011 on the belief that more opportunities to learn music are needed in our community. And more importantly that those opportunities are both accessible and equitable - truly we envision a world without barriers to music education.
