ABOUT

Our Impact

Our programming has evolved and grown in scope since 2011 and now includes traditional band and orchestra programming as well as mariachi, improvisation, and interdisciplinary programming that encourages activism through music.

PROGRAM PROFILES

We began initial conversations with Austin Achieve Public Schools (APPS) in April 2015 when the school community was ready to launch their first-ever music program. During the school years between 2016 and 2018, our partnership deepened, and Austin Achieve experienced significant growth. We also worked closely with the AAPS leadership team to set an ambitious goal of building a fully-sequential K-12 in-school music program by 2022. By the fall of 2021, the music program was 100% in-school and in-person.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Austin Soundwaves worked with Austin Independent School District's Visual and Performing Arts department to provide one-on-one music lessons to 44 middle and high school students across four campuses including Eastside Early College High School, Martin Middle School, Navarro Early College High School, and Webb Middle School. We used this opportunity to study the impact lessons can have on students. This is what we found.
