April was a whirlwind of a month for Austin Soundwaves, which included Large Ensemble Festival, featuring several schools participating from our Austin Music Education Coalition, our fourth organizational service day, Beyond Belonging, our first gala event since 2018, and several school partner spring concerts. A bittersweet thank you and farewell to Mr. Brian Klenzendorf, longtime band director at KIPP Austin Collegiate and partner with Austin Soundwaves. Though his tenure at KIPP is ending, count on Mr. K to continue supporting music and the arts. We have had the pleasure of working closely with his band students for the last several years, supporting in-school programming through lessons and sectionals. Thank you for your energy, dedication, and skill, Mr. K!

We had a lot of fun participating in our quarterly organizational service day at the Live Oak Brewing Company, benefiting Divine Canines and their Barks for Beers program. Austin Soundwaves organizational service days is an opportunity for our staff, board, and stakeholders to support other nonprofits throughout Austin. Divine Canines focuses on enhancing the well-being of people with special needs using the transformative healing power and special comfort that onlydogs can provide. Mariachi Para Todos concluded their programming with a wonderful performance at Pease Park Conservancy this past Mother’s Day. They had a chance to perform all of the songs they learned throughout the year in a beautiful outdoor setting and celebrated all their hardwork over dinner afterwards. Many thanks to Pease Park for their support and generous use of their beautiful space. A shoutout also to our terrific Mariachi Para Todos sponsors, HEB.
